Research Software is a pillar of research, alongside publications and data. All scientific disciplines are involved in software development, and most of the code produced by research laboratories is open source.

For several years now, the Université Grenoble Alpes has been involved, via the Cellule Data Grenoble Alpes, in supporting scientific communities around open source software.

As part of an international drive to raise the profile of its open source activities, Université Grenoble Alpes has inaugurating its Open Source Program Office on 23 and 24 September.

"An academic OSPO is defined as an organizational construct, situated in an academic research institution, supported by one or more individuals that acts as a convener, community steward, and center of competency for open source software." (CURIOSS)
